TERRELL OWENS MAKES A WINNING TOUCHDOWN OFF THE FIELD BY GIVING INSTEAD OF RECEIVING FOR HIS BIRTHDAY
Oscar Award nominee Will Smith and Grammy Award Winner Ludacris show support for Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens as he celebrates his birthday by raising money for 81 needy families for his Catch A Dream Foundation
Dallas, TX – On Monday, December 15, 2008 the Lone Star state was full of stars during the Second Annual Catch a Dream Foundation’s Celebrity Charity event hosted by Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens and sponsored by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group/Venom, Country Crossing, Bama Jam, Albertsons and JC Penney. Special celebrity guests included former Cowboy Deion Sanders, music artists Common and Solange Knowles, Angela Simmons of Run’s House, Atlanta Housewives Lisa and NeNe, actress Jill Marie Jones, comedian/actor Guy Torry and a host of his Cowboy team mates including head coach Wade Phillips and celebrity guests helped raise more than $100K during the live auction!
Dallas Mayor Tom Lepperd, Dwayne Carawy, Senator Royce West and Councilman Tennell Atkins were also in attendance and presented proclamations. Mayor Lepperd also presented Terrell with the “Key to the City”. Terrell is the first Dallas Cowboy to receive such an honor.
There were special surprises throughout the evening including a tribute in song from Terrell’s baby sister Sharmaine Stowes, a surprise birthday message from Oscar Award nominee Will Smith and live performance by Grammy Award winner LUDACRIS!
The December to Remember event was held at the luxurious Gaylord Texan Resort’s Glass Cactus Nightclub. The exclusive event included 500 of Terrell’s biggest fans that joined him in the cause to raise money for 81 underprivileged families in the Dallas area for the holidays. In addition to money, hundreds of bears were collected from guests who attended to be donated to a local children’s hospital for Christmas.
The event began with a private reception and dinner held for 180 guests including a lucky bidder who purchased a Dallas Cowboy helmet signed by Terrell Owens, Deion Sanders, Coach Wade Phillips and Pacman Jones for $8,100. One of the highest bids went for $10,500 for a one-of-a-kind handmade quilt made and designed by Terrell’s mother Marilyn Owens and it was signed by several Cowboy teammates.
After the private dinner Terrell thanked his sponsors, the crowd, and his foundation publicists Kita Williams and Monique Jackson of Team Image for their execution of the event and their support. He also read a few of the emotional letters submitted by the chosen 81 families. One of the 81 families chosen was the Christian family, who wrote a heartfelt letter to the foundation about their hardships. The family of 5 was surprised with a private shopping spree with Terrell at a local JC Penney store.
“When I have the opportunity to give to someone less fortunate than myself, it’s an indescribable feeling. I believe that to whom much is given much is required and I wanted everyone attending this event to experience the same great feeling that I do when I have the opportunity to bless someone else”, exclaimed Owens. I’m asking all of my fans to join me in the gift of giving by visiting my website at www.terrellowens.com for more information.
